Northampton J15 M1

 

Oxalis Planning secured a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Northampton Gateway Strategic Rail Freight Interchange in South Northamptonshire. This Nationally Significant Infrastructure project (NSIP) was approved by the Secretary of State for Transport on the 9th October 2019.

 

Oxalis Planning was the sole planning consultant and led the preparation and submission of the DCO application including preparing the application material and coordinating the preparation of the Environmental Statement.  We also led the extensive public consultation and stakeholder engagement process, and were actively involved throughout the Examination process between October 2018 and April 2019.

 

The scheme is a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) adjacent to Junction 15 of the M1 and consists of:

 

• an intermodal freight terminal;
• provision for a rapid rail freight facility;
• 6.7 million sq.ft. of warehousing including mezzanine floorspace;
• major highway works including improvements to M1 J15 and a new Road bypass;
• extensive earthworks and strategic landscaping.

 

The project has a capital value of around £400m, and will accommodate around 7000 jobs once fully operational.
